Hello everyone and Happy January (…for a change!)
I really hope you are having a beautiful and positive start to 2018 and that all your wishes come true! 😉
December has been a very busy but exciting month and I’m sure you can relate to this, but now that all the festive madness has passed, I am starting to feel a little blue about the things I could have done differently last year. But I don’t want to get into that chapter just yet, so I decided to change that feeling and to reminisce about the things I enjoyed the most in 2017 instead and to share them with you.
I have put together a list of ‘special moments’ but I realised the list was going to the roof so I have narrowed it down to My Top 12 Favourite Moments of 2017 because I thought it’s appropriate for the sake of each month we have in the calendar! So let’s go straight to it, shall we?
1. Visited one of the most beautiful cities in France
Early in January, I went to Strasbourg for the second time and gladly I got the opportunity to see the Christmas decoration still on and believe me, it’s such a cute thing to see. I fell in love immediately! Even if I was freezing, I couldn’t stop smiling at every corner I turned. I am really hoping to go back there again.
2. Hiked in the snow for the first time ever
Yes, I’m not lying! I’ve seen snow before and lived it, but I have never cross-country skiing, Alpine skiing, snowboarding, ski jumping, speed skating, figure skating and of course, hiked in the snow either lol I was very excited to start my snow adventure by hiking on the mountains of Lac Blanc in France and it was such a lovely and fun experience.
3. Discovered the best candles ever
This is by no means an Ad, but an honest thought about these gorgeous and non-toxic candles I discovered back in March via Instagram. The brand is called Octō London and the candles are made with hand poured soy wax and 100% natural essential oils. I truly love and enjoy the subtle fragrance of pure goodness they emanate in my home.
What’s even more cool about these candles, it’s that they are produced by a lovely couple who are always engaging with their customers and also, they create beautiful photos for their IG page. You should check them out!
4. The almost perfect shot by the Trevi Fountain in Rome
Rome is a ‘must visit’ kind of city and I was so glad to have revisited again early this year with the people I love.
One thing you should know about Rome is that no matter when you go, it’s going to be packed of tourists and it’s almost impossible to take a good photo without having a random stranger behind your back. You know the feeling, right? But I almost managed to get the perfect photo for my IG profile, at least in my opinion 🙂
5. Had the most enjoyable time in Madrid with my other half
I used to live in Madrid years ago and my parents live there, so I am always happy to go back because I get to see them and because there’s always something new to see and do.
Last May for instance, we were invited to one of my old friend’s wedding and the whole day was just fabulous – the venue, the views, the weather, etc. We had many good laughs, danced a lot, met great people, and simply enjoy being there in good company. It’s definitely one of the days that I remember the most.
6. Went to Killarney National Park for the first time
This was our first road trip in Ireland after we bought a car and we couldn’t have chosen a better place than this one. We took a couple of good friends and embarked into this adventure, which we loved so much.
I highly recommend visiting this natural beauty if you come to Ireland because it won’t disappoint you. I would also recommend renting at bicycle and make your way through it as it’s faster and much more fun!
7. Decided to leave my job
That’s right! After 6 years of working in the same company, I was presented with a good opportunity that I couldn’t miss so I left my job to pursue something else. I also felt I needed a break to spend time with family, friends as well as rethinking what I wanted in life and setting up new goals for myself.
8. Revisited my happy place
Haha I kind of love saying ‘my happy place’. I’m sure you all have one that helps you recharge your batteries and see things more clearly. My favourite place is anything to do with nature but I found one in particular, that makes me extremely happy and it’s the Powerscourt Gardens located in the Wicklow mountains.
It is such a pretty place I don’t mind revisiting every time someone comes to visit in Ireland. I love the smell, the fresh air, the sights, the beautiful trees and flowers, the whole estate is just breathtaking, including the food you can get at the cafe. I am definitely planning to go back again this new year.
9. Went 3 Sundays in a row to the People’s Park Market
You see, when you are not working you have a lot of time on your hands but everybody else doesn’t of course, so weekends become key in your social life. So when the weather was not so bad the People’s Park Market in Dun Laoghaire was the perfect meeting point because you have all kind of food and basically, everything you need. I need to go back!
10. Tried to take the perfect family photo
Every year I am blessed with my parents visit and last October we planned a 3 day road trip to Connemara, Clifden, Galway city, the Cliff of Moher, Dunguarie Castle and Ennistimon. We had so much fun and gladly we did all this the week before the hurricane Ophelia hit Ireland, however in this photo looks like the hurricane was already hitting us!
11. Felt like a little girl in Sintra, Portugal
Oh Sintra! What a wonderful picturesque little town! I was so happy to visit this place because it has so much to offer and I mean it. The longtime royal sanctuary can wow you with its amazing historic architecture and gorgeous scenery. But I will write a full post about this place some other time so you can see what I mean.
12. Recharged my batteries
This year I spent the Christmas season at home in Dublin cozying up, eating good food, watching movies, playing call of Duty and simply relaxing before 2018, because I have the feeling that it’s going to be a busy one.
If you made it until the end, thank you so much and I hope you enjoyed every piece of it.
Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
