If you are not familiar with Bredele, let me explain!… Bredele are small biscuits traditionally baked during the Christmas period in the Alsace region, located in eastern France.
Last year I received my first package of Bredele from my boyfriend’s family and this year, we decided to follow his Alsatian traditions and make our first Bredele batch.
As there are different varieties of Bredele made with Aniseed, orange & cinnamon, spices – we decided to go simple and make the oven-baked butter biscuits. The good thing is that you only need a few ingredients to prepare around 60 or more of these delicious biscuits, and the fun part is that you need to use your hands!
- 500g Flour
- 250g Sugar
- 250g Butter
- 8 Egg Yolks
Mix the sugar, the eggs, the softened butter and the flour. Knead the dough with your hands until blended and let it rest for approx. 2 hours. Then flatten the dough with a rolling pin (approx. 4mm). Use biscuits cutters in the shapes you like, place the shapes in a baking tray and spread some egg yolk on top of each biscuit. Place in oven for approx. 10 min at 160 degrees. Voilà!
Bredele are definitely the perfect addition to all your Christmas gifts as we all love getting biscuits, especially during the festive season. They are so fun and easy to make and are deliciously good! I really hope you get yourself started like us and give your loved ones a little bag of Bredele 😉
Thanks for reading and Happy holidays!
